| Over the years, Queensland has produced some of the finest sporting legends in Australia. From the likes of Ian Healy, Vickie Wilson, and Matthew Hayden, we think Queensland is definitely on the map with sporting legends.
These sports stars have been representing QLD since their school days, in the cricket nets at lunch time or playing netball after school. In every sporting legend’s early years, it’s their school sport that helps lift them to greater things. That’s where the Future State Greats can lend a helping hand.
The Future State Greats program started five years ago providing 24 young Queenslanders with a cash donation each year that could be used to help them pursue their chosen sports goals. One of the very first Future State Great was Sally McLellan – she’s now ranked Australian number one in Hurdles.
The QSS Foundation Future State Greats is designed to develop Queensland’s next Darren Lockyer or Libby Lenton. The program aims to provide cash contributions to primary and secondary students who have shown excellence in their chosen sport over the previous year. Often these contributions are put toward the student’s travel expenses associated with attending state and national school sport championships.
The Future State Greats are awarded at the Annual QSS Supporters Club lunch. To find out more about the QSS Foundation Supporters Club click here.
